President Michael Sata should extend his programme of opening of Universities in the country to Zambezi district of North Western province, a Zambian citizen Oscar Choza has said.

Choza explains that Zambezi district has a rich historical background of education. He said the district in the remote North West of Zambia is blessed with Chitokoloki mission which started educating the people of North Western province since 1912.

The first graduate from North Western province who later became one of the 14 members of Zambia’s cabinet of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, Dr Peter Matoka is a product of this place. The mission was was founded by George Suckling.

“Hence I suggest the establishment of a University to be named George Suckling University after the founder of the mission,” proposes Choza in his letter to Zambian Eye.

President Sata has announced the construction and in some cases upgrading of some colleges into Universities in Muchinga, Northern, Western, Lusaka Central and Copperbelt provinces.

  3. Universities are just needed in every province if Zambia is to develop. If we can have 10 fully fledged universities by 2015 then we’ll be a better nation by 2021. Right now the president should prioritise building one university in each province, like scattering them to decongest UNZA & CBU.
