Sikota Wina with Elizaberth Chalikulima

Freedom fighter and Veteran politician Sikota Wina,87, has rescinded his decision to marry Elizabeth Chalikulima, 40.

The story of Mr Wina remarrying went viral over the weekend after information leaked that he had sent former Minister to take bride price to the Chalikulima family.

But addressing a media briefing today, Mr Wina announced that he had withdrawn from the planned marriage and wished Elizabeth well. He also apologised to the Chalikulima family for the pain caused by his decision.

Sources close to the Wina family have told Zambian Eye that some elderly statesmen prevailed on Mr Wina saying he would be potraying a bad example as statesman to marry a lady that was more than half younger his age.

“It wasn’t easy, they took about 10 hours to convince the Oldman. They told him that he cannot destroy a name he has built for years in his last 11th hour of his life,” a source told Zambian Eye Monday evening.

Mr Wina is a widower of late politician Princess Nakatindi Wina who was also a member of the Lozi Royal family.

Below is a media statement Mr Wina read to the press.

  2. My comment is: “Very saddened. He should have gone ahead. The man is lonely. Those who dissuaded him went back to their respective warm beds afterwards. No real solution offered. So because he is old he should continue suffering from loneliness and deprivation? I totally disagree. People are selfish”.

  3. Bo Sikota & the late princess MHSRIP were `the couple’,i mean inseparable, only the cold hand of death managed to isolate them, however after all these years of mourning, despite his age, status etc, should not have prevented the bigman from remarrying, who said widowers should be condemned to celibacy? what if he lives to be 100 +,be fair..

  4. No, Sikota go ahead and marry the young woman. It is not up to ‘us’ to dictate morals to you, it is up to what your heart wants. If you and the young lady are in love, it is God who has brought you together, go ahead and marry. Remember, none of those who are mocking you are themselves ‘clean’ save only in their dreams.

  5. BO SIKOTA SIR, AM ONE OF THOSE WHO WERE SHOCKED. I WAS BORN IN 1954 I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND PARTLY BELONG TO YOUR POLITICAL TIME. I PERSONALLY SAW YOU GUYS LEAD US FROM THE BAZUNGUs, IT WAS A TEAM OF PRINCIPLED MEN..THE CHANGUFU, MATOKAS, BULAWAYO S, MULEMBAS, ARTHUR WINA, MWANGAS..etc.YOU SHOULD HOLD YOUR UPRIGHT STATUS LIKE KAUNDA. BUT IT WILL NOT BE BAD IF YOU MARRIED A BEAUTIFUL WIDOW OF AT LEAST 10-15 YEARS YOUNGER JUST TO BREAK THE BOREDOM AND NOT ONE WHO WANTS BABIES.. AAAH AT THAT AGE..HHHMM NO ITS NOT A GOOD IDEA. AM HAPPY YOU HAVE GIVEN UP. IT TAKES A RIVHT MKND TO REALIZE THAT YOU ARE OFF THE TRACK….WELDONE AND TO MADAM TRY TO CATCH UP WITH YOUR AGE GROUP..IN MID TO LATE 50s. Not even my age am tired sexually meanwhile you are at peak. Dangerous jealousness will creep in the marriage.
