10 reasons why ZCID is incompetent to lead or facilitate dialogue

Firstly, it should be stated, metaphorically, that PF insisting that ZCID facilitates the dialogue process is like a husband insisting that his girlfriend mediates a marriage dispute between him and his wife. The ZCID is a weak crop of unmotivated politicians, biased and have no influence over the dialogue stakeholders involved. Here are my reasons:

  1. THEY ARE NOT HONEST ABOUT THE CAUSE AND PURPOSE OF THE DIALOGUE

This dialogue process was triggered by a scandalous 2016 election and the compromised democratic institutions that resulted from this. ZCID has in the past been dialoguing only for the purpose of drinking mineral water and pushing papers for Government funding. They shouldn’t cheat the people about understanding what’s at stake.

  1. POLITCAL MOTIVATIONS

The institution in itself is a political institution lead by politicians and is likely to pursue political interest at the expense of national interests.

  1. BIAS

The ZCID in their debates, has lately been attacking UPND past parliamentary positions which in itself has exposed their bias already. It’s not the job of a mediator to publicly oppose or give their opinion about a party’s position on a matter. That seriously dents their neutrality.

  1. FAILURES ON PUBLIC ORDER ACT AND POLITICAL ARRESTS

Their argument that UPND lead the ZCID before and should therefore not criticise it, is neither here nor there. Maybe, UPND has experienced how weak the institution is in dealing with everyday issues of political arrests and the Public Order Act abuse and are just being honest about the lack of capacity.

  1. CONFLICT OF INTERESTS OF ZCID EXECUTIVE

Some politicians heading political parties and are also part of the ZCID executive will have a conflict of interest is assessing how ZCID is leading the whole process.

  1. ZERO INFLUENCE ON STAKEHOLDER

ZCID lacks influence as they have had their meeting requests ignored by Edgar Lungu for a long time. It was only after ECL shifted position and dumped the commonwealth that they got an appointment. Only the church and commonwealth possess that power to make our top leaders sit up.

  1. NO AGENDA

ZCID’s offer to lead the dialogue is not backed by a clear understanding or approach. The only reason they are giving is that they are Zambian and we Zambians should trust ourselves. The damning truth however is that most Zambia don’t trust Zambians especially politicians. The only Zambian we can trust are our Church. How do we trust Zambian who don’t even want to refund money ordered by the constitution court.

  1. LACK COMPROMISING SPIRIT

In mediating dialogue there is not such thing as leaving behind anyone, especially an important party like UPND, with significant supporters and parliament representation. If ZCID proceeds like that it won’t be a dialogue but a monologue where PF will be speaking to its own mirror image. If one party does not agreed with ZCID they have a moral obligation to compromise or withdraw their offer and allow PF and UPND to reach a compromise.

  1. SINGING THE PF SONG

This dialogue was initiated by Commonwealth, and in her statement Scotland outlined what PF, UPND had agreed to dialogue and resolve. UPND agreed to that and it’s sinister for ZCID to start singing the PF deception which is aimed at drawing attention away from the initial focussed issues. PF and ZCID are talking about reforms in a general sense which we all not always end up in “politics as usual” or “business as usual”.

  1. TRUST

Finally and most importantly, ZCID has lost the trust of the Zambians. It does not matter if PF supporters trust them a 100%. They have been seen sharing panels with PF, they have drank tea with PF, they argue in the same words and tones as PF and the way PF is recommending them does not sound like an offer but like a condition.

The ZCID didn’t play this game well because their spirit of neural mediation is pathetic, they are chancers who came out of the blue and do not understand the gravity of this dialogue. This is not a “business as usual dialogue process” that they are used to. if they are failing to acknowledge just how divided this country is and how governance systems are inclined towards the people they are sharing a bed with, then they have no muscle to handle contentious issues like a manipulated ECZ, biased ZNBC, puppet IG, abusive DPP, toothless HRC, sleeping ACC, violent ruling party, etc. Let them write minutes and leave these tough issues to the heavy weights in the Church mother bodies.

One Response to 10 reasons why ZCID is incompetent to lead or facilitate dialogue

  1. Dialogue is about discussing what people think is either wrong or what they want to do, this doesnt need any one special .
What you do is to put on the table what your arguments are , anyone can be a referee however the discussion can bring to the conclusion of the matters at hand.
Your conclusion becomes the agreement of course with signitures to authenticate your agreement.
